225 Bulletin Board: Honoring Educators Marqus Mitchell & Katrell Dixon

At Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, we believe in recognizing the everyday heroes who make a difference in our community. That’s why we created the 225 Bulletin Board, a program that shines a spotlight on outstanding teachers and school workers in the Baton Rouge area. Each month, we select two winners who go above and beyond for others, awarding them $250 and the opportunity to have their faces featured on a billboard.

This month, we’re excited to honor two incredible winners: Marqus Mitchell, Athletic Director at Tara High School, and Katrell Dixon, Magnet Site Coordinator at Capitol Middle Magnet School.

Marqus Mitchell: A Mentor and Father Figure

As Athletic Director at Tara High School, Marqus Mitchell does far more than coach. He mentors, supports, and uplifts students, many of whom see him as a father figure. His nomination speaks volumes about his dedication:

“He goes above and beyond for students who lack a father in their life. He treats them like his own kids. I’ve seen him take money out of his own pocket to help those in need. Instead of scolding kids when they make mistakes, he sits down with them and helps guide them in the right direction.”

To make the moment even more special, our team surprised Mr. Mitchell with his award on his birthday! It was a heartfelt celebration of someone who has given so much to his students.

Katrell Dixon: Inspiring a Love for Learning

Capitol Middle Magnet School’s Katrell Dixon is shaping the future by inspiring curiosity and a love for learning in his students. As a Magnet Site Coordinator, he plays a pivotal role in guiding, motivating, and encouraging young minds. His nomination reflects his passion for education:

“He doesn’t just lead, he inspires. Not only is he attentive but he keeps his students curious and hungry to learn more. He’s a special person with a gift for guiding others.”

Mr. Dixon’s commitment to education doesn’t go unnoticed. His ability to ignite excitement in learning and keep students engaged makes him an invaluable leader in our community.

Thank You for Making a Difference

Both Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Dixon embody what it means to lead with purpose, compassion, and dedication. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom, shaping the lives of young people who will carry their lessons forward for years to come.

Congratulations to both of this month’s 225 Bulletin Board winners! Keep an eye out for their billboards around town, and if you know someone making a difference in the Baton Rouge area, be sure to nominate them for next month’s award. We love celebrating the unsung heroes in our community!
